On 21-23 November we had a pleasure to participate in Krakaton at Univeristy of Science and Technology in Kraków. Together with Hackerspace Kraków and IBM, VirtusLab created this huge event.

Krakaton was supposed to band together people, who’d like to make the local society’s lives easier by creating useful applications on IBM Bluemix platform.

For this demanding challenge, 30 participants created a number of groups, each one having excellent ideas how to improve the lives of people from Krakow. The vast majority of the projects had made a strong impression but jury had to choose the winners.

The first place and a prize for the best application (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10″ tablets): WIBB(Where  is Bus Bro) for the application for tracking bus routes (according to GPS modules inside vehicles) and estimating possible delays.

The other two teams that received distinction are: KrakBike ( the app. for track routing while using KMK bikes) and ITCrowd (an accelerator for meetings and conferences). The teams were awarded with book vouchers.

Apart from the main prizes, all participants received power banks and t-shirts with VirtusLab logo. We would like to congratulate all the teams and to thank them for their efforts. It was really nice to see the passion and engagement into the project.

All in all, we’re glad that Krakaton went according to the plan and we’re happy to support and co-organize such events. For photos visit Krakaton 2014 facebook profile.
